Squarespace: Making a great first impression
It's challenging to build something you're proud to share with the world. I'm reminded how often founders and creators face this struggle when I stare at the canvas of a blank document. The hardest part is bringing to life the idea in your head. That's the beauty of Squarespace.
Seventeen plus years ago, Anthony Casalena sat in his dorm room at the University of Maryland facing the same problem. He turned his blank canvas into Squarespace, and set out on his journey to create the foundation of a product that would come to define an entire industry of web publishing and make it easy for anyone to create something that they were proud to share with the world. Today, Squarespace serves millions of customers around the world enabling the next generation of creators to connect with their audiences wherever they may reside. Photographers, architects, restaurateurs, and all types of small businesses have come to depend on Squarespace’s suite of web publishing and fully integrated commerce tools to run their business. And we’re just getting started.
Behind every great company is a collection of passionate believers who sacrifice so much of themselves to maximize the unique opportunity they were presented with. I am so thankful to the entire Squarespace team (including the teams at Acuity, UnFold and Tock) for their collective effort over the years. And I am so proud to have had the opportunity to work with a group of such talented individuals. Special thanks to an incredible Management team (Marcela, Courtenay, Mary, John, David, Paul, Kinjil, Raphael and Roberta) and a great group of co-investors and board partners (Dom, Anton, Liza, Michael and Jonathan).
Anthony, thank you for giving me and Accel the opportunity to become your partner over eleven years ago. I have been so fortunate to have a front row seat as you and your team navigated this new and emerging industry. You have without a doubt built a truly special company. I can’t wait to see what you and the Squarespace team dream up over the next decade.
Congratulations on your next step as a Public Company. And thank you for giving us the opportunity to be a part of your journey.
