What’s the most impactful piece of advice you’ve received?
“It’s the things you chain yourself to that set you free.” David Brooks, the New York Times columnist, shared this during my undergraduate commencement speech. His message was about the power of making commitments. As a wide-eyed 22-year-old, the advice didn’t fully resonate with me. But over time, I’ve realized that focusing on what I truly care about—whether it’s my hobbies, my partner, or my work—helps me prioritize ruthlessly, ignore distractions, and end each day feeling more fulfilled.
Who most inspires you?
My grandparents. They fled Cuba during the communist revolution in the mid-60s and came to the US in search of better opportunities for their children. I can’t imagine how hard it must have been to leave behind their family, friends, and everything they knew and start fresh in a country where they didn’t speak the language. I’m grateful for their sacrifice every day.
What's something people are surprised to learn about you?
I played competitive badminton in high school. My mixed doubles partner and I even placed 3rd in the state championships. Let’s just say lawn parties haven’t been the same for me since.
